Healthy Lifestyles
The Healthy Lifestyles Programme is designed to provide appropriate, evidence-based health interventions for optimal health, focusing on the target group of 10-24 year olds. These interventions target key health priorities that affect the health of young South Africans nationally and globally.
With the Healthy Lifestyle program, we use modular programs such as Health4Life and LivingMyLife, as well as face-to-face interventions targeting a variety of areas important to youth well-being.
The Health4Life programme covers the following themes:
- Sexual Reproductive health and rights
- HIV and AIDS & TB
- STIs
- Teen Pregnancy
- Drug and substance abuse
- Mental Health
- Violence and Unintentional Injuries
- Nutrition
- Menstrual health and hygiene
loveLife’s Born Free Conversation (an intergenerational dialogue), Youth Health Festival and Adolescent and Youth Friendly Institutions (AYFS) groundBREAKER festivals are part of interventions that cover the main themes while also focusing on other causes of HIV infection in South Africa such as:
- Gender-based violence and intimate partner violence;
- Age-related sex;
- Transactional relationships;
- Low rates of service use and HIV testing among young people
Youth health festivals and events
loveLife’s dedicated groundBREAKER and mpintshi team deliver our healthy sexuality and active lifestyle programs in a fun and engaging way through festivals and events including health talks, sport, dance, drama and debate. loveLife creates a demand for services among teenagers by interacting with the youth and as a way of providing services people are offered services such as HIV test, TB screening, blood pressure check etc. This is very important in these activities through the various partners we work with.
Born Free Dialogues
loveLife’s Born Free Dialogue, Youth Health Festival and Adolescent and Youth Friendly Spaces (AYFS) are part of interventions that focus on other causes of HIV infection in South Africa such as:
- Gender-based violence and intimate partner violence;
- Age-inappropriate related sex;
- Transactional sexual relationships;
- Low rates of service use and HIV testing among young people
