Three Capetonian teens from The Grove Primary School in Claremont have won the regional heat of Nickelodeon’s GENIUS, the ultimate kids’ quiz

Rameez Chicktay (13), Kayur Ranchod (13) and Amin Banderker (13) triumphed in the Western Cape edition of the competition from kids and family channel Nickelodeon and Melrose Cheese. The event was held at Cape Town Science Centre on the 25 April.

Twenty-seven primary schools from Cape Town and the surrounding area competed against each other in the quiz to demonstrate their knowledge, speed and precision in the maths and science, while Nickelodeon undersea hero SpongeBob SquarePants was on hand to help out with the tricky questions and meet the kids participating in the quiz!

The three young Capetonians will travel to Johannesburg to compete in the grand final on of the quiz on 26 July against teams from Johannesburg and Gauteng. The ultimate winners will win an all-expenses-paid trip to Orlando, Florida to visit the Kennedy Space Centre (NASA) and they will also visit the Universal Orlando Theme Park where they will be treated to various themed rides and experiences including Spiderman, Shrek, Jurassic Park, Minion Mayhem and a tour of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

Nickelodeon’s GENIUS is a fun, interactive and engaging campaign designed to get SA kids inspired by maths and science…and to encourage the nation’s embryonic mathematicians and scientists to learn more about these fascinating and important educational subjects. The competition is open to all students between the age of 9 to 13 years old from grade 3 to 7 in the Western Cape and Gauteng.
