By getting an education, orphaned and vulnerable children (OVCs) increase their chances of living successful futures and helping to break the cycle of poverty within their families and communities. Strong evidence also shows that attending school offers protective benefits with respect to HIV risk tolerant behaviour and thereby helps to reduce the transmission of the virus among school-going youth.

GoGo Malebone Susan Luthuli, 74, was recently honoured with the ‘Order of the Baobab Award’ (Silver) for her excellent contribution and dedicated service to the community and championing the rights of orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs). This Order is awarded to South African citizens for distinguished service that goes well above and beyond the ordinary call of duty.

goGogetters! loveLife mobilizes nation-wide network of grandmothers to combat HIV

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (USA) has provided US $3.5 million to loveLife to establish a network of 500 grandmothers across South Africa, each committed to preventing HIV in 20 children at high risk. Many of these children will come from families affected by Aids. Through this network, at least 10,000 children will be supported.
