goGo wins Presidential award
GoGo Malebone Susan Luthuli, 74, was recently honoured with the ‘Order of the Baobab Award’ (Silver) for her excellent contribution and dedicated service to the community and championing the rights of orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs). This Order is awarded to South African citizens for distinguished service that goes well above and beyond the ordinary call of duty.
In 2009 alone, goGo Luthuli supported more than 81 OVCs between the ages of two
and 18. Through hard work and perseverance, she managed
to secure identity documents and birth certificates for
38 OVCs. She also carefully managed relationships with
the Home Affairs, Health, Education and Social Development
Departments, and together with them, ensured that 60
children had access to grants and that 59 families received
food parcels. This was in addition to encouraging 15
children to return to school, enrolling 50 children in
school and providing 23 school uniforms for those who
were unable to afford it.
This is not the first time this mother of 11 has received acknowledgement for
her work in the community. In fact, her list of accolades
is quite lengthy, but for loveLife this is merely confirmation
that she is indeed one of South Africa’s finest!
